Celts Go up 3 on ‘Bockers; Ray and P2 Just Can’t Miss
The world-famous Madison Square Garden, with perhaps more history within its doors than any other existing arena in the league, was buzzing early on with game 3 excitement. The Knicks fans, hoping to see their boys pull off the club’s first playoffs victory in ten years were just as loud and wild as their reputation leads one to expect.
It turns out that’s just how the Mean Green like it. Feeding off of the chanting and home-town bluster of the crowd, Boston veterans Ray Allen and Paul Pierce lit the knicks up, combining for 14 triples and an outrageous 70 points, and helping rondo to 20 assists. Ray himself shot 8 for 11 behind the 3-point line and scored 32 points all-together.
The message was loud and clear. “We’ve been here before in this situation” Ray said. Hostile environments, playoff away games and hard-won victories over teams with All-Star caliber players, none of this is new for a team with veteran NBA Playoffs heroes like those on the Boston Celtics.
Fans of the New York Knickerbockers are going to have to wait again and hope to see this playoff slump end. If the Celtics have their way they’ll be waiting at least another year.
